The Beastie Boys go to #1 with "Licensed to Ill" on March 7, 1987
20 years ago today, March 7th, The Beastie Boys became the first rap group to have a #1 album in the United States with Licensed to Ill. The album stayed at #1 for seven weeks before being replaced in the top spot by U2's The Joshua Tree on April 25, 1987.
The album had been released in November of 1986 and was recorded earlier in 1986 with the help of famed producer Rick Rubin.
Licensed To Ill includes the classic Beastie Boys songs Girls, No Sleep Till Brooklyn, Brass Monkey, and Fight For Your Right.
