Coldplay go to #1 on the UK album charts with Parachutes on July 16, 2000

Coldplay's first album Parachutes went to #1 on the UK album charts on July 16th of 2000.

The album featured the huge hit single "Yellow" which won the NME Award for best single and was nominated for Grammy Awards for best rock song and best rock performance (it lost.)

Although the album never got above #51 on the US charts it has sold over two million copies in the States.
