Lisa Loeb hits #1 on the US singles chart with "Stay" on August 6, 1994
"Stay (I Missed You)" by Lisa Loeb began a 3 week stay at #1 in the US on August 6th of 1994. The song went to #6 in the UK.
The song was featured in the 1994 film Reality Bites starring Ethan Hawke and directed by Ben Stiller. It was included in the soundtrack album for Reality Bites and later on Loeb's debut 1995 album Tails.
Hawke "discovered" Loeb and the song "Stay" when he was living in an apartment across the street from her in NYC. He brought the song to Ben Stiller who agreed to feature it in the movie.
The video for the song was very simple featuring Loeb walking around a mostly empty apartment while singing the song. It was directed by Ethan Hawke and the cat in the video is his. See the video below:
