Los Lobos version of the traditional Mexican song "La Bamba" went to #1 in the UK on August 1st of 1987. 20 years ago today. It also went to #1 in the United States.

Although the song was first recorded in a rock style by Ritchie Valens in 1958, the song itself is actually over 300 years old.

The Los Lobos version was featured in the 1987 movie about Ritchie Valens which was also titled La Bamba.
