Originally Lennon & Ono planned for this event to take place in New York City but US immigration officials refused to allow John Lennon to enter into the country because of his 1968 drug conviction in London. Montreal was chosen due to it's closeness to the US border. The first "Bed-In" event took place in Amsterdam about two months before.
