Bloomfield's guitar work with Dylan is probably best featured on record on the Dylan album Highway 61 Revisited.
Bloomfield died on February 15, 1981 from a heroin overdose. He was 37 years old.

It was 39 years ago today that the Beatles animated film Yellow Submarine premiered on July 17th of 1968 in London.

The album released with the same name as the film featured 6 Beatles songs (4 of which were new releases) along with 7 instrumentals written by their producer, George Martin.
A "Songtrack" also titled Yellow Submarine was released in 1999 to coincide with the re-release of the film. This songs on this version were remixed and instead of just 6 songs it had 15 songs with no instrumentals. This "Songtrack" is a pretty good introduction to the Beatles psychedelic period.

45 years ago today the Rolling Stones played their first live gig. It was at the Marquee Club in London on July 12th of 1962.
They had a 6 man lineup at the time of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Dick Taylor, and Tony Chapman. Soon after Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts joined the band replacing Taylor and Chapman. Stewart officially left the group for publicity reasons (the manager Andrew Loog Oldham didn't think he had the right looks) but he stayed on with the band playing piano until his death in 1985.

Self Portrait became Bob Dylan's 5th UK #1 album on July 11th of 1970.
The album is seen by many as Dylan's worst. Rock critics Jimmy Guterman and Owen O'Donnell go beyond saying it's Dylan's worst album to saying it's the 3rd worst album of all time.
The album features mostly cover versions of pop and folk songs. It also contain a few instrumentals, original compositions, live recordings of older songs ("Like A Rolling Stone" for example) with The Band.
The intent of the album has been debated with Dylan giving various explanations for why he made the album over the years. At some points he says that it was a basically a thrown together "bootleg" record since he was being heavily bootlegged at the time.
In other interviews he seems to be saying he made the album to purposely alienate some of his fans: "There'd be crowds outside my house. And I said, 'Well, fuck it. I wish these people would just forget about me. I wanna do something they can't possibly like, they can't relate to. They'll see it, and they'll listen, and they'll say, 'Well, let's get on to the next person. He ain't sayin' it no more. He ain't given' us what we want,' you know?"
In the same interview when asked why it's a double album Dylan replies: "Well, it wouldn't have held up as a single album — then it really would've been bad, you know. I mean, if you're gonna put a lot of crap on it, you might as well load it up!"
The Beatles began a 6 week run at the top of the US album charts with Beatles VI on July 10th of 1965.
As was the normal at the time Beatles VI was not a proper Beatles release but a collection of songs from various sources that Capitol put out in America to take advantage of their overwhelming popularity. The UK releases (the originals as the Beatles intended) were generally 14 tracks while the chopped up and thrown together American versions were 11 tracks.
It was not until 1967's Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band that the same album that came out in the UK (as the Beatles intended) came out also in America.
Beatles VI contained 6 songs from Beatles For Sale, 3 songs from Help!, and 2 b-sides.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey! (Beatles For Sale) 2. Eight Days a Week (Beatles For Sale) 3. You Like Me Too Much (Help!) 4. Bad Boy (b-side) 5. I Don't Want to Spoil the Party (Beatles For Sale) 6. Words of Love (Beatles For Sale) 7. What You're Doing (Beatles For Sale) 8. Yes It Is (b-side) 9. Dizzy Miss Lizzy (Help!) 10. Tell Me What You See (Help!) 11. Every Little Thing (Beatles For Sale)

"(We're Gonna) Rock Around The Clock" as recorded by Bill Haley and his Comets hit #1 in the US on July 9th of 1955.
This was the first rock n roll song to ever hit #1. It stayed at #1 for 8 weeks in the states and became a hit all around the world.
It was written in 1952 by Max C. Freedman and James E. Myers. Myers claims that the song was written specifically for Haley although Haley was not actually the first to record the song.
The song set off an avalanche of rock n roll hits in the 1950s. It was later used as the theme song for the TV show Happy Days for it's first season.
