The Beatles Are Awarded MBEs On October 26, 1965

The Beatles were appointed as Members of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBEs) on October 26th of 1965. They received the awards from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

This award was given primarily to military veterans and civic leaders at the time and The Beatles reception of the MBEs caused some controversy among some conservative Brits who felt that a "pop group" such as The Beatles shouldn't be given such an honor.

In 1967 Paul McCartney & George Harrison wore their MBE awards on their Sgt Pepper costumes for the photo taken for the cover of the Sgt Pepper album.

In 1969 John Lennon returned his MBE to the Queen in protest over England's involvement in the Vietnam War.

In this interview The Beatles are asked about receiving the MBEs:

Radiohead Released In Rainbows On October 10, 2007

Radiohead released their 7th album, In Rainbows, in download only format on October 10th of 2007. The album can be purchased in download form for any amount that you wish to spend on it. On the website it is stated that it's literally "up to you." It is also possible to purchase a disc box version which comes with a CD of the album (with 6 additional songs) and a double LP. The disc box version also comes with access to the download version of the album. The disc box version is made to order and ships later.

With this long awaited album, Radiohead became the first major band to bypass the labels and try something truly different with their album's release. Radiohead released In Rainbows as an unsigned band.

Go to www.InRainbows.com to learn more & to order/download the album.

This is the first music trivia post I have made about something happening today. I think this album release is instantly an event of musical historical significance not only because it's Radiohead's 7th studio album which would probably be enough on it's own but because of the way that it's being released which very well could be revolutionary.

And even if it does not cause other bands & artists to follow in their footsteps and even if Radiohead decides to sign to a label after this experience, it's one hell of an experiment anyway.
