Acid House In 1958?
By Marvin Marks on Feb 9, 2010 in Features
I just came across some electronic music recorded in 1958 that’s really blowing my mind. I didn’t realize music like this was made in 1958. I have heard some other very early experimental electronic music (such as John Cage’s “Imaginary Landscape” from 1939) but nothing like this. This is much more beat oriented and “modern” sounding in comparison.
A great example of what I’m talking about can be heard in the track embedded below. It was created by Tom Dissevelt & Kid Baltan (Dick Raaijmakers) who were pioneers in the world of electronic music in the late 50s and early 60s in the Netherlands. I’m not sure what it’s title is. If you like this, search YouTube for Tom Disselvelt because there’s more stuff like this available to listen to.

I am stunned that this was 1958. This could easily be on one of the white labels I bought in the 90s… and it’s good.
