Anita Pointer was born on January 23rd of 1948 in Oakland, California.
Anita joined her younger sisters Bonnie & June to form The Pointer Sisters in 1969. Her old sister Ruth joined the group in 1972. Bonnie left the group in 1977. The three remaining Pointer Sisters (Anita, June, & Ruth) had great commercial success in the late ’70s and early ’80s. They had a total of seven top 10 singles on the US pop charts from 1978 to 1984 (four them coming in 1984 alone) and they are as follows:
1978’s “Fire” reached #2.
1980’s “He’s So Shy” reached #3.
1981’s “Slow Hand” reached #2.
1984’s “Automatic” reached #5.
1984’s “Jump (For My Love)” reached #3.
1984’s “I’m So Excited (remix)” reached #9.
1984’s “Neutron Dance” reached #6.
