Best Ramones Tunes (That I Have Heard)
By Mozart Breath on Jun 1, 2008 in Features, Song Reviews

Now, I don’t know very much about The Ramones or their albums or their lifestyle, or what have you. I will say that I do know that I like a handful of their tunes. Now, please allow me to share them with you…
”I Don’t Wanna Go Down To The Basement”, pretty cool and paranoid epic. What exactly is in the basement, and is it faceless? You got a little driving guitar riff while Joey Ramone successfully croons his way through the number. It is a really awesome song, and causes one to tap ones foot quite enthusiastically indeed.
“I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”, what an awesome cut, Joey was probably a true romantic, and I know he wrote some Ramones tunes, but am uncertain if he wrote this one. The music is appropriately more pleasant than on the first tune mentioned and I hear a nice little wordless vocal as well. Just an absolutely beautiful song that appears to be about a gent who hopes that he will not be rejected and I think many vaguely insecure persons can agree, no?
Finally, I pick “Beat On The Brat”. This song is totally neat, again with the simple universal feeling in the lyrical content…as we all know a person or persons whom greatly annoy us somehow, perhaps we even feel this way about our great selves sometimes, no? The vocal hook spells out the misery…
“What can you do? What can you do? With a brat like that always on your back, what can you lose?”
…Perfection is the word, and I love how the music just builds up; no doubt an excellent driving song. Interesting how all of these cuts are featured on The Ramones debut from 1976, but might it very well be their best album in some respects? So, got any favorite Ramones tunes that I did not list, do let me know…
