Cartoon for The Beatles “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”

Because it’s such a fun bouncy sing-along type tune people don’t often notice that “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” by The Beatles is about a serial killer. This cartoon (embedded below) brings the lyrics (written by Paul McCartney) to “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” to life.

I’ve always thought this song gets a bad rap (including from Paul’s fellow Beatles – George Harrison called it “fruity.”) It’s actually quite sick (in a delicious sort of way) to make such a happy sounding song about such a dark subject. It also reinforces my belief that Ween owe quite a bit of their peculiar approach to songwriting to Paul McCartney.
