Cat Stevens Turns 60

Cat Stevens was born as Steven Demetre Georgiou on July 21, 1948 in London.

In the late 1960s and into the 1970s, Stevens had many hits as a singer-songwriter. Among his biggest hits were “Wild World,” “Father and Son,” “Peace Train,” “Morning Has Broken,” “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” & “Moon Shadow.”"

In 1977 he converted to Islam and then at the age of 30 in 1978 he changed his name to Yusef Islam and left the world of popular music. He didn’t release another pop album until 2006’s An Other Cup.
