Grammys 2010: Album of the Year
By TheRoboticMushroom on Dec 4, 2009 in Features
Remember when the Grammys meant something? I don’t. The Grammys have always been rather ridiculous, actually. To give you some idea of how much BS the Grammys were even back in the day; in 1969 something called “Little Green Apples” by someone called Bobby Russell beat out a little tune called “Hey Jude” by a little band called The Beatles for “song of the year.”
I could share a thousand more such examples of ridiculous winners & nominees from the past, but I think I’ll just go ahead and get to the ridiculous nominees for album of the year for 2010 (which actually covers some period from 2008 through 2009.)
I Am… Sasha Fierce by Beyonce
The E.N.D. by Black Eyed Peas
The Fame by Lady GaGa
Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King by Dave Matthews Band
Fearless by Taylor Swift
What a big steaming pile of crap that is.
Check out the RateYourMusic.com ratings for these albums:
I Am… Sasha Fierce – 2.87 – Not in the top 1000 for 2008.
The E.N.D. – 2.04 – Not in the top 1000 for 2009. One of the lowest scores I’ve ever seen on RYM.
The Fame – 2.78 – Not in the top 1000 for 2008.
Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King – 3.50 – #226 for 2009.
Fearless – 3.16 – Not in the top 1000 for 2008.
What are the criteria that they choose these nominees by? My guess is album sales with a tiny bit of music criticism sprinkled on top to keep it from being too obvious.
