Kindle DX & Kindle With Global Wireless
By Marvin Marks on Jan 4, 2010 in Features
EDIT: Now the Kindle DX also has global wireless service.
What’s Amazon’s Kindle have to do with music?
Well not too much directly, I suppose. But I read a lot of books about music and many of those books are available on the Kindle. On top of that, you can subscribe to some music blogs and magazines via the Kindle. These things also come with a basic web browser (and it’s like GPS navigator in that you don’t have to pay any monthly fees) so that you can browse your favorite music blogs (or whatever else you want) with it.
If you’re in the US then there are two choices if you’re thinking about buying one of these gadgets. The Kindle DX and the Kindle with Global Wireless. If you’re outside the US then you have to go with the global version.
The big differences between the two are that the DX is bigger (as far as it’s display, the amount of memory it has, and it’s price tag) and the global version is able to be used in countries all around the world while the DX version is only available to be used in the US.
There are a lot more similarities than differences.
They both can download new books, newspapers, or magazines (from a massive selection of well over 300,000) in less than a minute (with a wireless connection like a cellphone’s, you don’t have to have an internet connection.)
They both have a “text to speech” feature which essentially turns any book into an audio book.
They both have long battery life that lets you read for days without recharging the battery.
They both have a no glare “paper like” display that “reads like a paper” even in direct sunlight.
They are both “thinner than most magazines” which makes them very easy to hold.
The Differences
1. The DX has a 9.7″ display while the global only has a 6″ display.
2. The DX holds up to 3,500 books, while the global holds up to 1,500.
3. The DX has an auto rotating display, the global does not.
4. The global works worldwide, the DX works only in the US.

I’m reading now that the Kindle DX may be adding global service soon… If so I’ll update this post.
