Kirk Hammett was born on November 18th of 1962 in San Francisco, California.

Hammett is most well known as the lead guitarist for the heavy metal band Metallica. He joined the band in 1983 after their original lead guitarist, Dave Mustaine, was kicked out of the band due to alcohol & drug related problems.

Metallica has released nine studio albums to date beginning with 1983′s Kill ‘Em All. Their most recent album titled Death Magnetic was released on September 12, 2008.

In 2003 Rolling Stone magazine ranked Hammett as the 11th greatest guitarist of all time.
