Don McLean was born on October 2nd of 1945 in New Rochelle, New York.

McLean is most well known for his 1971 song "American Pie" which hit #1 in the US and #2 in the UK.

"American Pie" was partly inspired by the February 3, 1959 plane crash which killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. The phrase "The day the music died" in the song is a reference to this event.

Donny Hathaway Was Born On October 1, 1945

Donny Hathaway was born on October 1st of 1945 in Chicago, Illinois.

Hathaway was a successful R&B singer songwriter in the 1970s with his top charting album being 1972's Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway which hit #3. This, as I'm sure you can tell by the name, was a duet album with Roberta Flack.

His highest charting album on his own was 1972's Live which true to it's name was a live album. It reached #18 on the US charts. The album features covers of songs like "You've Got a Friend" by Carole King and "Jealous Guy" by John Lennon.

He committed suicide on January 13, 1979 at the age of 33.

Kim Carnes was born on July 20, 1945

Kim Carnes was born on July 20th of 1945 in Pasadena, California.

She is best known for her 1981 mega hit single "Bette Davis Eyes" which topped the singles charts for 9 weeks.

Carly Simon was born on June 25, 1945

Carly Simon was born on June 25th of 1945 in New York City.

Simon had success during the 1970s as a singer songwriter. Her biggest hit being "You're So Vain" from 1972. To this day people still wonder who the song is about. Simon has never publicly said who the song is about. She has said that it's about "many vain men" she has known.

Among the men guessed as the "You" in "You're So Vain" are Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens, Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson, William Donaldson, and James Taylor.

Simon had brief relationships with Cat Stevens, Warren Beatty and Kris Kristofferson. She was married to James Taylor from 1972 to 1983. Jagger sang backing vocals on the song.

Eric Clapton was born on March 30, 1945

Eric Clapton turns 62 today.

The British guitarist, songwriter, & vocalist is sometimes known by the nickname "Slowhand." This nickname was given to him for his guitar playing ability.

Clapton has played in numerous bands over the years including The Yardbirds, Jack Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek & The Dominoes.

Clapton played lead guitar on The Beatles song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
