Anthony Kiedis Was Born On November 1, 1962

Anthony Kiedis was born on November 1st of 1962 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He grew up in Grand Rapids until age 11 when he moved to Los Angeles.

He is best known as the lead singer of the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers which was formed in 1983.

Red Hot Chili Peppers had little commercial success until their 4th album, Mother's Milk, which charted at #52 in the US in 1989. Their big break through came with their next album 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik which reached #3 in the US. It was also the first Chili Peppers album to have success worldwide as they reached the UK, French, German, and Australian charts for the first time. It has sold over 12 million copies worldwide.

Since then the Chili Peppers have released four more studio albums each of which has been successful commercially:

1995's One Hot Minute charted at #5 in the US and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.
1999's Californication charted at #3 in the US and has sold over 15 million copies worldwide.
2002's By the Way charted at #2 in the US and has sold over 9 million copies worldwide.
2006's Stadium Arcadium charted at #1 in the US and has sold over 7 million copies worldwide.

Their most successful singles to date have been:

1991's "Under the Bridge" which charted at #2 in the US, #13 in the UK, and #1 in Australia
1999's "Scar Tissue" which charted at #9 in the US, #15 in the UK, and #3 in New Zealand.
2003's "Dani California" which charted at #6 in the US, #2 in the UK, and #2 in Sweden.

1990's "Give it Away," 1993's "Soul to Squeeze," 1995's "My Friends," 1999's "Scar Tissue," & "Otherside," 2000's "Californiacation," 2002's "By the Way," & "Can't Stop," 2003's "Dani Califorinia," 2006's "Tell Me Baby," and 2006's "Snow ((Hey Oh))" have all reached #1 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart.

The Beatles Released Their First Single In The UK On October 5, 1962

The Beatles released the first single of their career on October 5th of 1962. The song was "Love Me Do" and it would later be included on their first album Please Please Me.

While it only reached #17 upon it's initial release in the UK, it would reach #1 in the United States as a single in 1964. It reached #4 in Canada in 1964. And it also reached #4 in the UK upon it's re-release in 1982.

"Love Me Do" was recorded with three different drummers; Pete Best, Andy White, & Ringo Starr. All three versions have been released. The Pete Best version was included in 1995's Anthology 1. The Andy White version was released on Please Please Me. The Ringo Starr version can be heard on the Past Masters Vol. 1 collection.

Baz Luhrmann Was Born On September 17, 1962

Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann was born on September 17th of 1962. Although he is not known as a musician he is credited with the #1 1999 UK single "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen.)"

Luhrmann directed the 2001 musical Moulin Rouge! starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

The Rolling Stones made their live debut in London on July 12, 1962

45 years ago today the Rolling Stones played their first live gig. It was at the Marquee Club in London on July 12th of 1962.

They had a 6 man lineup at the time of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Dick Taylor, and Tony Chapman. Soon after Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts joined the band replacing Taylor and Chapman. Stewart officially left the group for publicity reasons (the manager Andrew Loog Oldham didn't think he had the right looks) but he stayed on with the band playing piano until his death in 1985.

The Rolling Stones have sold over 200 million albums worldwide and are still playing live today.

Ian MacKaye was born on April 16, 1962

Ian Thomas Garner MacKaye was born on April 16th of 1962 in Washington DC. He is 45 years old today.

MacKaye is known as the singer of Minor Threat & Fugazi. He has also worked as a recording engineer on releases from bands such as Rites of Spring and Rollins Band.

Izzy Stradlin was born on April 8, 1962

Izzy Stradlin is most well known as the rhythm guitarist of Guns N' Roses. He was a member of the band from 1985 to 1991. Although often overlooked, Stradlin was an important songwriter for Guns N' Roses as well.

Stradlin has appeared with the new version of Guns N' Roses during live shows in 2006.

Stradlin was born in Lafayette, Indiana.

Bob Dylan's first album "Bob Dylan" was released on March 19, 1962

Bob Dylan has arguably been the most influential and important solo music artist of the last 50 years. It was 45 years ago today that he got his start with his very first album being released. His first album was self titled and features mostly folk standards but it also includes 2 original songs. One of the covers was "House Of The Risin' Sun" which would later be a hit for The Animals.

Here's Dylan in 1963 playing an original composition from his next album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. The song is the classic "Blowin' In The Wind."
