Baccara Went To #1 On The UK Singles Chart On October 29, 1977

Baccara went to #1 on the UK singles chart on October 29th of 1977 with their debut single "Yes Sir I Can Boogie." It stayed at #1 for one week. It did not chart in the United States.

The song was written by Frank Dostal and Rolf Soja and also produced by Soja.

Baccara was a female duo which had been formed earlier that year (1977) by Spanish flamenco artists Mayte Mateos and Maria Mendiola.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Plane Crashed On October 20, 1977

A plane carrying the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from one show to the next crashed in Mississippi on October 20th of 1977.

The crash killed singer/songwriter Ronnie Van Sant, guitarist/singer Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines. The wreck also killed the pilot, co-pilot, and the band's manager.

Other members of the band were also in the crash but survived. Some of them were injured.

The remaining members disbanded the band after the crash but reunited in 1987 and still perform with the reformed band to this day (with many personnel changes along the way.)

Lynyrd Skynyrd's most famous songs are "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird."

John Mayer Was Born On October 16, 1977

Pop singer/songwriter John Mayer was born on October 16th of 1977 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Among his most well known songs are "Your Body Is a Wonderland" from his debut 2001 album Room for Squares, "Daughters" from 2003's Heavier Things, and "Waiting on the World to Change" from 2006's Continuum.

Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977

Elvis Presley died on August 16th of 1977 at age 42. 30 years ago today. Presley, of course, would be 72 years old if he were alive today.

Presley is arguably the most successful solo rock n roll artist of all time. He had 18 #1 US singles. Only the Beatles (20) have had more US #1 hits.

His first #1 was "Heartbreak Hotel" in 1956 and his last was "Suspicious Minds" in 1969.

His death is believed to be caused by his indulgence in pharmaceutical drugs such as Codeine pills. He was found to have 14 different drugs in his system at his death.

The song was on his 1976 album This One's For You. It was written by Richard Kerr (music) and Will Jennings (lyrics.)

Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols was attacked in a brawl on June 21, 1977

The Sex Pistols singer Johnny Rotten was attacked in a brawl in London on June 21st of 1977.

Later that year the Sex Pistols would release their album Nevermind the Bollox, Here's the Sex Pistols.

The album included the track "Anarcy in the UK" - Here's a performance of that song from 1976:

Stevie Wonder hits #1 with "Sir Duke" on May 21, 1977

"Sir Duke," Stevie Wonder's tribute to Duke Ellington from his Songs in the Key of Life album went to #1 on the US singles charts on May 21st of 1977 where it stayed for 3 weeks. It was his 6th US #1 hit. "Sir Duke" hit #2 on the UK charts.

Fleetwood Mac releases the classic album Rumours - February 21, 1977

30 years ago today Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" was released. It went on to sell more than 15 million copies and it spent 31 weeks at #1 in the US.

"Go Your Own Way" by Lindsey Buckingham was one of the tracks on this album. Below you can see a reunited Fleetwood Mac performing this song in 1997.
