Steve Miller's "The Joker" Hits #1 On The UK Singles Charts On September 15, 1990

Steve Miller's "The Joker" (from the 1973 album The Joker.) Became a #1 hit single in the UK over 16 years after it became a #1 hit in the US (in 1974.) It's rise in popularity so many years after it's initial release was due to it being featured in a Levi's commercial.

MC Hammer's Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em Hits #1 On The US Album Charts On June 9, 1990

MC Hammer's Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em hit #1 on the US album charts on June 9th of 1990 and then stayed at #1 for 21 consecutive weeks. It also became the first rap album to sell 10 million copies in the United States.

Most of the album's commercial success was due to the smash hit single "U Can't Touch This" which sampled Rick Jame's 1981 hit "Super Freak."

The music video for "U Can't Touch This" featured MC Hammer in his "Hammer Pants" doing his trademark dance moves.
