Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977

Elvis Presley died on August 16th of 1977 at age 42. 30 years ago today. Presley, of course, would be 72 years old if he were alive today.

Presley is arguably the most successful solo rock n roll artist of all time. He had 18 #1 US singles. Only the Beatles (20) have had more US #1 hits.

His first #1 was "Heartbreak Hotel" in 1956 and his last was "Suspicious Minds" in 1969.

His death is believed to be caused by his indulgence in pharmaceutical drugs such as Codeine pills. He was found to have 14 different drugs in his system at his death.

49 years ago today, March 24th, Elvis Presley joined the Army. He served for nearly two years. He was honorably discharged on March 5, 1960.

Presley had received a draft board notice on December 20, 1957. His managers were able to get a deferment so that Presley could finish the movie he was about to begin work on which was called King Creole.
