Pete Seeger Turns 89 Today
By Marvin Marks on May 3, 2008 in Music Trivia
Pete Seeger was born on May 3rd of 1919 and turns 89 years old today.
Ol’ Pete’s had a pretty interesting life from being a member of the Communist party and later being blacklisted because of that during the McCarthy era to writing “Turn, Turn, Turn!” (made famous later by The Byrds) to getting pissed off at Bob Dylan for plugging in his guitar in 1965.
He also wrote the song “If I Had a Hammer.”
And with that I say, “Goodnight Irene.”
Happy Birthday Pete!
And here’s Pete Seeger playing Malvina Reynolds’ “Little Boxes” on the banjo. (You’ll know the song if you watch Showtime’s WEEDS)
