Stevie Wonder Hits #1 On The US Album Charts At Age 13 On August 10, 1963

45 years ago today on August 10th of 1963, Stevie Wonder became the youngest artist to ever hit #1 on the US singles charts with “Fingertips (Part 2)” The song stayed at #1 for three weeks before being knocked off the top spot by “My Boyfriend’s Back” by The Angels on August 31st.

Stevie Wonder was just 13 years old when the song hit #1. At the time he was known as “Little” Stevie Wonder of course he has gone on to a long successful career since then and the “Little” tag was long ago dropped.

Listen to “Fingertips (Part 2)”

As you can hear, the song was actually recorded live and there’s even a false ending (which faked out some of his band mates.)

This is the longer version of “Fingertips” heard on the live album Little Stevie Wonder The 12 Year Old Genius.
