Bill Wyman Was Born On October 24, 1936

Original Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman was born on October 24th of 1936. He was a member of the Rolling Stones from their founding in 1962 until 1993.

Since he left the Stones in '93 he has been performing and recording with his new band Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. They have released 5 albums so far with the most successful being 2000's Groovin' which reached #52 in the UK album charts.

He also released some solo albums while a member of the Rolling Stones. The most successful being his first, 1974's Monkey Grip which reached #39 in the UK and #99 in the US.

His most successful European single was 1981's "(Si Si) Je Suis Un Rock Star" which reached #14 on the UK singles charts. His most successful single in the US was 1985's "Baby Please Don't Go" which reached #37 on the US Mainstream Rock charts.

Wyman was the oldest member of the Rolling Stones by some quite a number of years. For comparison while Wyman is celebrating his 71st birthday today (Oct. 24 2007) Mick Jagger is 64 and Keith Richards is 63. Drummer Charlie Watts is 66. This age disparity played a part in him never becoming that close to the other members of the Stones despite being in the band for over 30 years.

The Rolling Stones went to #1 on the US singles charts with "Miss You" on August 5, 1978

The Rolling Stones had their 8th US #1 single with "Miss You" on August 5th of 1978. "Miss You" was the Stones last #1 hit in the US to date and it seems highly unlikely they would be able to have another #1 single at this late stage in their career. The song also went to #3 in the UK.

The song is featured on the Rolling Stones 1978 album Some Girls which also contained "Beast Of Burdern" and "Shattered."

"Miss You" was the first Stones single to be heavily influenced by disco as heard in the pulsating funky bass and the four to the floor drums.

"Miss You" was selected as the 496th best song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine in 2004.

"Miss You" was used in the opening scene of the pilot episode of the TV show Miami Vice in 1984.

The Rolling Stones made their live debut in London on July 12, 1962

45 years ago today the Rolling Stones played their first live gig. It was at the Marquee Club in London on July 12th of 1962.

They had a 6 man lineup at the time of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Dick Taylor, and Tony Chapman. Soon after Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts joined the band replacing Taylor and Chapman. Stewart officially left the group for publicity reasons (the manager Andrew Loog Oldham didn't think he had the right looks) but he stayed on with the band playing piano until his death in 1985.

The Rolling Stones have sold over 200 million albums worldwide and are still playing live today.
