Les Paul Died Today At The Age Of 94

Guitar legend Les Paul died today at the age of 94 from complications from pneumonia.

He is most famous as the man who invented the electric guitar but he also was instrumental in the invention of many important recording techniques such as overdubbing, delay effects, phasing effects, and multi-track recording.

He was also a talented guitarist and an extremely influential one at that. He played in a style which was very unique for his time and that style went on to influence every rock guitarist since him (either directly in some cases or indirectly in all others.) He gave Steve Miller personal guitar lessons.

In the early 1950s Gibson designed an electric guitar based on his invention and sent it to him for him to try out. He was impressed by it and signed a contract with Gibson so that they could produce a line of Les Paul electric guitars. Gibson’s Les Pauls are still sold today (less expensive models are sold under their Epiphone brand name.)
