Liam Gallagher Starting A New Band

Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher is starting a new band with the other members of Oasis (Gem Archer, Andy Bell, & Zak Starkey) with the exception of lead songwriter and guitarist Noel Gallagher (that’s Liam’s brother who quit the band in August.)

Liam had said that the band would not be named Oasis (although he had not chosen a new name yet) but recently he has said that they may decide to stick with the Oasis name.

Liam on the Oasis name: “We’re not using it at the moment, but if we don’t come up with something else by the time we’re ready to release the album it’ll be Oasis. I’m not going to call myself something ridiculous just for the sake of it.”

Liam said that he expects this new incarnation to release a debut album next year as they are already working on new songs.

He also has plans for the band to get out and do live shows soon but he said that they would not perform any songs written by Noel. Of course if they can’t play any songs written by Noel, it will be pretty absurd to use the Oasis name as about 95% of the songs people associate with the band were written by him.

Speaking of Noel, he is apparently working on a debut solo album (possibly for release next year too?)

  1. I should say that I think it’d be a mistake for them to call the band Oasis without Noel. It’s a bit ridiculous. Even worse than calling Guns N Roses Guns N Roses without Slash.
