Today would have been Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday as he was born on August 29, 1958 but as everyone knows, Jackson died just over two months ago on June 25, 2009.

Since his death Jackson has been selling albums at an extremely fast pace. He was at #1 on the UK album charts for 8 consecutive weeks (before falling to #6 last week) and he’s had the top selling album in the US for 6 of the weeks since his death (he’s been at #2 the other 3 weeks.)

#1 Selling Album Of 2009

Over the course of last week Jackson passed some country pop tart named Taylor Swift (I’m happy to say I barely know who she is) for the top selling album of 2009. His 2003 compilation album Number Ones has sold 1.6 million copies for the year (the great majority of those since his untimely death.)

It’d be pretty amazing if a compilation album first released in 2003 (and filled with songs mostly released in the 1980s) ends up as the #1 seller of 2009 and that seems pretty likely as of now, but there’s still four months to go.
