MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Pedal
By TheRoboticMushroom on Dec 17, 2009 in Gear Reviews
I’d been considering buying the MXR Carbon Copy for some time (because I’m a bit obsessed with getting more analog in my signal chain and delay is an effect I use a lot) when I finally decided to get one this week after reading a lot of positive reviews about how much better the delay sounds compared to digital delay pedals and delay plugins.
After a couple days of using the pedal I can confirm all of those positive reviews with one of my own. It’s really so much different than any digital (wither pedal or in the computer) delay I’ve used previously. It has a much more “earthy” “organic” “warm” (it’s hard to describe sound, man) sound to it. And I love the way I can create some really intense effects by turning the REGEN knob to the right (especially if I turn the DELAY knob at the same time.)
But it’s not all roses. The one negative for me is that I’m so used to setting my delay with my mouse based on tempo (ie: with Waves Multi-Tap, I just say I want it to be however many beats long) that it’s a bit weird and confusing to my little brain to have to actually listen to the beat of the song while turning the knob to try to get the delay where I want it.
What I’ve realized through this process is that isn’t necessary, or maybe even desirable, to get it perfectly on a particular beat especially for very short delays (where it’s really more of a signal fattener than a delay, and I’ve found this is a really cool subtle way to use this pedal.)
Overall, I’m very pleased with this purchase and I do recommend it. I’m including the Amazon purchase box for it below along with some other analog delay pedals (that Moog one looks pretty cool eh? Of course, it’s crazy expensive.)
