My Favorite 25 Albums Of The Decade

It’s getting to be that time when people start compiling their “best of” lists for the decade (although we’ve still got about three months left of it.) So I’m jumping in on this due to all of the peer pressure.

I’m doing a top 25 list but it’s not ranked in order. Instead it’s alphabetical by artist name. It’s hard enough to choose 25 albums, ranking them in any sort of meaningful way isn’t really possible for me.

My Favorite 25 Albums Of The Decade/Century/Millennium

Akron/Family – Akron/Family
Aphex Twin – Drukqs
The Avett Brothers – Emotionalism
The Avett Brothers – I and Love and You
Beck – Sea Change
Beck – The Information
Boards of Canada – Geogaddi
Brian Wilson – Smile
Circulatory System – Circulatory System
Circulatory System – Signal Morning
Dungen – Ta det lugnt
The Flaming Lips – Embryonic
The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi…
Jonny Greenwood – Bodysong
Paul McCartney – Chaos and Creation…
Primal Scream – XTRMNTR
M. Ward – Transistor Radio
Nine Inch Nails – Ghosts
Radiohead – Amnesiac
Radiohead – Hail to the Thief
Radiohead – In Rainbows
Radiohead – Kid A
Thom Yorke – The Eraser
Ween – White Pepper
Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

I suppose this would be a lot more useful with a little write-up for each album but I just don’t think I have it in me at the moment. If you see some albums here you like but you haven’t heard some of the others on my list perhaps you would enjoy them as well if you have a listen with your ears.

  1. Actually, I’m having second thoughts about Signal Morning. I don’t think I like it as much as their first album. It just feels a bit too random. I mean it definitely has some really cool moments (which is why I included it on this list in the first place.) I don’t know. I’d say of these 25, that’s the one I’m feeling most iffy about and I may have jumped the gun a bit placing it on this list.

  2. Doing this list has me revisiting some of these albums… The Information is really good. In fact at the moment I may rank it as my favorite Beck album.

  3. My favorite Beck album is probably Mellow Gold. I think you are being a little too kind to Mr. Hansen, he released his best material in the ’90′s…back when he used to dress like a Kurt Cobain stunt-double. In any event, I believe Mozart, that is I, will have to compile his own Top 25 of the Decade list to rival your own, oh my brother.

  4. I know Mozart… I know. I do think his 2000 output has been less steady – but I stand by Sea Change & The Information. I really dig those two albums. Guero and Modern Guilt I’ve got more mixed feelings about.

  5. I definitely forgot a few that should be on my list…

Super Furry Animals – Rings Around The World

    Air – 10,000 Hz Legend

I may redo this list with a bit more thought put into it and some little reviews of each album.

That is… if I get over this extreme laziness thing I got going on.
