“Ozzy” Osbourne was born as John Michael Osbourne on December 3rd of 1948 in England.
He first became famous as the lead singer for the heavy metal band Black Sabbath.
Their second album, 1970′s Paranoid, hit the top of the UK charts (and #12 in the US) it has gone on to sell over 4 million copies in the US and it’s gone 6X Platinum in the UK making it their highest selling album in both the UK & the US. It’s also their only album to go to #1 on the charts in the UK or the US.
Paranoid features the title track, “War Pigs,” & “Iron Man.”
Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to substance abuse. He was replaced by Ronnie James Dio.
He began his solo career with 1980′s Blizzard of Ozz which charted at #21 in the US and #7 in the UK. It’s gone on to sell over four million copies in the US matching the success of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid. It features “Crazy Train” which is probably Osbourne’s most famous song as a solo artist.
In all Osbourne has released nine solo studio albums. All of them except his most recent (2007′s Black Rain) have gone Platinum in the US (at least one million copies sold.)
In the 2000s Osbourne became a star to a different set of fans with the MTV reality series “The Osbournes” which starred himself, his wife Sharon, and their children Jack, & Kelly. Their eldest daughter Aimee refused to participate in the show.
