Roger Daltrey Was Born On March 1, 1944

Roger Daltrey was born on March 1st of 1944 in London, England. He is best known as the founder and lead singer of the legendary 1960s/1970s band The Who.

Guitarist Pete Townshend was the band’s principle songwriter but Daltrey did co-write the band’s secondy single “Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere” with Townshend.

The band burst onto the scene in 1965 with the album My Generation (featuring the huge hit single by the same name.) They were known for their great live performances and their supreme musicianship (bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon are often seen to be among the all time bests at their respective instruments.)

Their most well known albums are 1969′s Tommy, 1971′s Who’s Next, and 1973′s Quadrophenia. Each of which charted in the top 2 in the UK and the top 4 in the US.

Among their most well known singles:

1965′s “I Can’t Explain” & “My Generation”
1966′s “Substitute,” “I’m a Boy,” & “Happy Jack.”
1967′s “I Can See for Miles.”
1968′s “Magic Bus.”
1969′s “Pinball Wizard.”
1971′s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” & “Behind Blue Eyes.”
1975′s “Squeeze Box.”
1978′s “Who Are You”
1981′s “You Better You Bet”

Surprisingly The Who never had a #1 single in either the US or the UK. They did have 13 top ten hits in the UK and 8 top twenty hits in the US.

While many of their songs weren’t huge hits on the charts, they have become staples of classic rock radio stations.

Daltrey has released a number of solo albums as well with 1980′s McVicar being the top performer in the charts (reaching #22 in the US.) It was a soundtrack album to a movie of the same name. Townshend and Entwistle performed on the album as musicians.
