Ron Townson was born on January 20th of 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri.
He is most well known as a singer for the group The 5th Dimension which had a number of hits in the late ’60s and early ’70s. He was one of the founding members of the group along with Billy Davis, Jr., Florence LaRue, Marilyn McCoo, & Lamonte McLemore.
The band had the following top 10 hits in the US:
“Up, Up and Away” #7 in 1967.
“Stoned Soul Picnic” #3 in 1968.
“Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” #1 (for 6 weeks) in 1969.
“Wedding Bell Blues” #1 (for 3 weeks) in 1969.
“One Less Bell to Answer” #2 in 1970.
“(Last Night) I Didn’t Get to Sleep at All” #8 in 1972.
“If I Could Reach You” #10 in 1972.
Townson passed away on August 2, 2001 from complications related to kidney disease.
