Some of Today’s Album Releases

Paul McCartney - Good Evening New York City

This is a 2CD/1DVD combo (and it’s quite a good deal getting two CDs and 1 DVD for only $13.99) which documents Paul’s three shows at New York City’s Citi Field in July of this year. Citi Field is the New York Mets new field (replacing Shea Stadium where The Beatles had their most legendary concert back in 1965.)

There are 33 tracks included (on both the CDs and the DVD) which cover McCartney’s entire career from The Beatles first album (”I Saw Her Standing There” being the first track on 1963’s Please Please Me) to his latest solo albums.

Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures

The debut album by this super-group featuring Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters/Nirvana), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin.) I haven’t heard any full songs from this album yet, but the samples I’ve heard sound promising.

John Mayer - Battle Studies

I don’t have anything to say about this really. I don’t like John Mayer’s music generally, but I did enjoy a cover that Mayer did of Radiohead’s “Kid A” I heard many moons ago. I think because almost entirely on the basis of that cover I’ve never hated John Mayer as much as I’m supposed to. And I haven’t heard anything of this new album, maybe it’s fantastic.

Rush - Working Men

Apparently this is sort of a “greatest hits” release except with previously released live recordings instead of previously released studio recordings. Side note: Ayn Rand is a real drag. No, greed is not good.

  1. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard about Them Crooked Vultures before, that sounds like a really awesome group and the samples I heard on Amazon were great. I’m getting their album.
