The Beatles Dominate Canada’s Album Charts

As well as The Beatles did on the UK and US album charts, they did even better on Canada’s.

For the week ending September 17th The Beatles had a ridiculous 6 of the top 10 spots and 12 of the top 20 on the Canadian album charts. Possibly most impressive is that The Beatles Stereo Box Set was at #6. Considering it’s cost and the fact that it actually contains 16 Beatles CDs, that’s absolutely amazing. It is the highest a box set has ever charted in Canada.

Abbey Road was the highest Beatles album on the chart at #3. Think about that. An album from 1969 was #3 on the Canadian album chart and that’s despite the fact that it’s sales numbers were cut into significantly by the sale of the box sets (people who buy the box sets aren’t going to buy the albums individually too, and people who buy the box sets are the kind of hard core Beatles fans who would have definitely bought the remastered Abbey Road if there had been no box set available.)

  1. Amazing… I think their sales are inflated relative to the rest of currently charting music due to the fact that their fanbase is older, and thus more used to the physical formats than getting stuff digitally. I’d love to see what happened if they ever agreed to make their back catalogue available on iTunes, or even on services like eMusic and Spotify.

  2. Dash, there may be some truth to that but any such inflation should be more than made up for by the fact that the box sets are greatly eating into the individual album sales. Plus I know many folks who are younger and who normally download illegally but who bought these remastered albums..
