With The Beatles Mono Box Set now sold out on Amazon & Collectors Choice Music and with no news on when (if?) more copies will be available, I’m thinking there could end up being a market on eBay with people selling these box sets (probably at outrageous prices.)

EDIT: It’s now 9/1/09 and Collectors Choice Music does appear to have the Mono Box Set back in stock. Who knows how long that will last? /EDIT

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if some people bought multiple copies of this box set precisely for this reason (to make a profit selling them on eBay above their cost.) I guess we’ll see what develops. I’m going to embed eBay auctions of the mono box set below (as of right now there shouldn’t be anything there, but as people put them up for sale – they will appear.)

As of right now The Beatles Stereo Box Set is also sold out on Amazon but it is available on Collectors Choice Music (for now.)

I’m not so sure that the same kind of market will develop for the stereo set. Why not? Well, there appears to be more copies of it floating around for one thing (and Amazon has already said they will be getting more copies in stock, they haven’t said the same about the mono set.)

But perhaps most importantly, the remastered stereo Beatles CDs that are inside of the stereo box set can be purchased individually, unlike the original mono mix CDs that are in the mono set which are only for sale as a part of the set.

Actually, that’s another possibility. Maybe some people will think they can make more money by splitting their mono set into individual CDs and then selling the mono Sgt. Pepper (for example) for $50 on eBay.
