The Flaming Lips Cover of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon

The Flaming Lips cover of Pink Floyd’s 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon will be released as a download only album on ITunes tomorrow.

I’m personally boycotting buying this album because I hate ITunes. AmazonMP3 rules, and they really should have made this available there too.

But I’ll still be listening to this one way or another.

I love Dark Side of the Moon and I love The Flaming Lips, but really this seems like the kind of thing where it’ll be fun to listen to once or twice and then it’ll be put away never to be pulled out again.

The full title of this release is: The Flaming Lips And Stardeath And White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins And Peaches Doing The Dark Side Of The Moon.

Yes, you read that right, Henry Rollins! WTF? Not exactly the first guy I think of when I think about Pink Floyd. I think he’ll be doing all of the spoken parts of the album.

And who are Stardeath and White Dwarfs? They’re a band featuring Flaming Lips singer Wayne Coyne’s nephew, Dennis Coyne.

The Lips & Stardeath… will be performing the album in it’s entirety just after midnight during their New Years Eve show at Oklahoma City’s Cox Center.

  1. BTW: We’ve only got 3 years left until the end of the world on 12/21/12 …

    No - I don’t really believe in that BS. I’m just-a kiddin’

  2. The world already ended in 2000, but seriously, what does this have to do with Animal Collective?

But even more seriously, I’d be angry if the Lips tried to do Piper…some things is sacred!
