The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize?” Becomes The “Official Rock Song” Of Oklahoma

“Do You Realize?” by The Flaming Lips (who formed in Oklahoma City in the early 1980s) is set to become the “official rock song” of Oklahoma despite some opposition from some truly idiotic conservatives (yes, “idiotic conservatives” does seem somewhat redundant at this point.)

These fellas are opposed to “Do You Realize?” because of lead singer Wayne Coyne using profanities at a concert (no seriously, that really got this one guys panties all in a bunch) and because of bassist Michael Ivins wearing a T-Shirt with a communist hammer and sickle on it. I guess the guy who got all worked up about the “commie shirt” still thinks the Cold War is going on?

The Flaming Lips Performing “Do You Realize?” On The Late Show With David Letterman:

Warning: The comments on that YouTube video are so disturbing that I felt I needed to put this warning up in case you don’t feel like being upset. There’s a disturbing amount of people “out there” who really think that singing like an “American Idol” is the only important aspect to music and who think that Simon Cowell’s opinion should be sought out as final arbitrator of what is good. Disgusting.
