The Flaming Lips Embryonic Debuts At #8 On The Billboard Album Charts
By Marvin Marks on Oct 21, 2009 in Music Trivia
The new Billboard album charts are out for the week and The Flaming Lips newest album Embryonic debuted at #8 with 32,000 copies sold. This is the highest the band has ever charted in the US beating out the band’s last album At War with the Mystics which reached #11. But it should be noted that Mystics actually sold more copies in it’s first week (48K vs 32K.)
The rest of the top 10 albums is filled with the usual garbage like Michael Buble (whose Crazy Love is spending it’s second week at #1) and Miley Cyrus.
The highest debut for the week was the soundtrack for the new Twilight movie, New Moon which debuted at #2 despite being released on Friday rather than the usual Tuesday release.
I must admit I actually bought the Twilight soundtrack myself because it was only $5 for the download version on Amazon.com and I wanted the new Thom Yorke song (”Hearing Damage”) that is included on the soundtrack. It was only available with the whole soundtrack, not on it’s own.
Plus the soundtrack includes some other bands/artists that I like or was interested in hearing (because I have heard a lot about them but have been too lazy to really check ‘em out.) I can’t give a review on the whole thing as I haven’t listened to it all the way through but I do think the bands/artists included on it is quite impressive.
