Goats Head Soup became The Rolling Stones’ 8th UK #1 album on September 22, 1973.
The album also reached #1 in the US (on October 13th.)
It’s most well known song is the #1 US single (#5 in the UK) “Angie.”
While, “Angie” was a big hit and the album did reach #1 in both the UK & the US, Goats Head Soup is considered to be something of a letdown by most music critics and Rolling Stones fans compared the great albums they had released in the years leading up to it (1968’s Beggars Banquet, 1969’s Let It Bleed, 1971’s Sticky Fingers, and 1972’s Exile on Main St.)
