The Smashing Pumpkins - “A Song For A Son”

The Smashing Pumpkins are releasing a 44 song album called Teargarden by Kaleidyscope one song at a time (one new song a week) beginning with “A Song For A Son” this week.

Billy Corgan on what this new song is about: “I think it’s got something to do about not having any kids and thinking about why I don’t have any kids. And then also kind of thinking about my relationship with my father — there’s some kind of connection there, but it’s not overt. I didn’t set out to write that, it just rolled out of me.”

All of the songs for this album will be available for free download at SmashingPumpkins.com (you can download “A Song For A Son” now.)

Along with the free downloads, the album is also planned to be released in a series of 11 CDs (4 songs on each) and then in a box set including all of the songs. The first four song EP CD will include “A Song For A Son,” “Astral Planes,” “A Stitch in Time,” and “Widow Wake My Mind.”

  1. eh… I didn’t care for it on my first listen.

    And 44 songs?? Bit much…

I like the idea, but I think one song a month for a year would be a better concept. Every week is too much and 44 songs is way too much for an album.

In fact, the one song a month for a 12 song album is a great idea.

  2. 44 songs is quite a lot. It’s hard to write 44 songs on one album without recycling some of the music. Hope all goes well for them though.
