The Top 10 ’80s Artists On Last.FM
By Marvin Marks on Apr 7, 2009 in Features
Using a similar criteria as I used in my post on the top 20 ’90s artists on Last.FM – these are the top 10 ’80s artists on the Last.FM charts. I find this interesting because it lets us know which bands or “artists” from the past are new listeners (as most of the people using Last.FM are in the under 30 demographic) still being attracted to.
#1 Metallica
#2 Red Hot Chili Peppers
#3 U2
#4 Depeche Mode
#5 The Cure
#6 Madonna
#7 Iron Maiden
#8 Guns N’ Roses
#9 Michael Jackson
#10 Pixies
Huh?
Red Hot Chili Peppers: You may not think of them as an ’80s band and I don’t either really. They didn’t become really well known until the early ’90s but they did have a following in the ’80s and they released four albums in the ’80s and since I didn’t include them on the list for the ’90s, I have to include them here.
Michael Jackson: I broke my own rule by including Jackson as ’80s instead of ’70s since he had actually released five solo albums in the ’70s but obviously he is most well known for 1982′s Thriller and 1987′s Bad.
