Three Albums: 2005 (Akron/Family, The Campfire Headphase, Chaos and Creation)

Instead of calling this series “top” three albums I’m going to just call it three albums. These are just three albums I dig from 2005. It’s not that I even necessarily think they are the best three albums, whatever best means when it comes to music. Just three cool albums. Alphabetical order by artist name.

Akron/Family - Akron/Family

This is Akron/Family’s debut and for me it’s probably the album of 2005 and while they have released some good stuff since then, it’s still my favorite album by them. Plus the cover is awesome. I have it on vinyl (which is kind of strange considering the digital lo-fi way the album was recorded.)

Boards of Canada - The Campfire Headphase

This may actually be Boards of Canada’s least good album (out of the three they have released) but it’s still quite good. Dig it. Not the ringing endorsement you were hoping to read? It’s good. Listen to it.

Paul McCartney - Chaos and Creation in the Backyard

Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is settling in as one of McCartney’s best solo albums, perhaps his best in the last 30 years. Although I’m also fond of Memory Almost Full and Electric Arguments (as The Fireman.) 1997’s Flaming Pie was also pretty good. The Fireman’s Rushes (from 1998) may actually be the McCartney album I think people should most check out as it will blow apart any idea you may have of what kind of dude he actually is. He really ain’t some sappy dude. Sure he’s written some sappy songs, but he’s an experimentally minded musician.
