Tommy Ramone Was Born On January 29, 1952

Tommy Ramone was born as Erdélyi Tamás in Budapest, Hungary on January 29th of 1952. He is best known as the drummer and co-producer for the Ramones from 1974 to 1978 (that time period includes their first three albums: Ramones, Leave Home, & Rocket to Russia.)

He left the band as a drummer in 1978, but stayed on as a band manager and as a co-producer for their fourth album, Road to Ruin.

Along with being the drummer and a co-producer for the first three albums, he also wrote “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” & “Blitzkreig Bop” and played most of the lead guitar solos on the first three albums.

He was born in Hungary but he grew up in Queens. He played in a rock band with John Cummings (Johnny Ramone) as a teenager.

Tommy Ramone is the last survivor of the original Ramones. Lead singer Joey Ramone died in 2001, rhythm guitarist Johnny Ramone died in 2004, and bassist Dee Dee Ramone died in 2002.
