Top Selling Remastered Beatles Albums On Amazon
By Marvin Marks on Aug 11, 2009 in Features
The Stereo & Mono Box Sets are selling more copies than any of the individual Beatles albums which is incredible considering the price of the box sets. This shows that a lot of Beatles fans just want all of the albums and don’t want to bother with buying them all individually.
But among those not buying the box sets and just buying the individual remastered CDs, which of The Beatles albums are they buying? Here’s the current ranking of the top selling remastered Beatles CDs on Amazon.
#1 Abbey Road
This isn’t really surprising at all, Abbey Road is the biggest selling studio album of The Beatles’ career and I think it’s their most “modern” sounding album not only as far as the production (and it does have a clearer, smoother sound than their earlier albums) but also as far as the songs (“Come Together” being the best example.)
While I don’t personally think it’s their best album (I’m more of a White Album kind of dude) I think it’s pretty awesome that so many people do think that when you consider it was the final album they recorded. How many bands go out like that?
#2 Revolver
When I did a report on the most popular Beatles albums on Amazon earlier this year (before the remastered CDs were available) I was surprised to find Revolver at #6, but here it’s up at #2. #6 was surprising, #2 isn’t too surprising considering how many people consider it to be the best Beatles album and how often it’s at the top of critics lists of the greatest albums of all time.
#3 Rubber Soul
I’m a little surprised it’s above The White Album & Sgt. Pepper but I guess you could make the argument that it has more stone cold classics than either of those two albums with “Drive My Car,” “Norwegian Wood,” “Nowhere Man,” “Michelle,” “Girl,” “I’m Looking Through You,” & “In My Life.”
#4 The White Album
My favorite Beatles album. Considering it’s a double album it’s really the best deal too. Twice as much music for only $5 more dollars. Get more Beatles per dollar by buying The White Album!
#5 Let It Be
Abbey Road & Let It Be are not included in the Mono Box Set (as they were never mixed in mono) so it makes sense that they may get a boost in sales from people who choose to buy the Mono Box Set along with Let It Be & Abbey Road in stereo (for the purists who just want the albums as they were originally mixed.)
#6 Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
I really think this album is now underrated. People like to say it’s “overrated” so much that it’s definitely now underrated. While I personally prefer The White Album (and it’s pretty much the opposite style of album in many ways) I think a good argument can be made that Pepper is The Beatles greatest album.
#7 Magical Mystery Tour
And here’s where The Beatles purists rant about how Magical Mystery Tour wasn’t a real Beatles album. Of course it wasn’t in the true sense of the concept, although I consider it more of an album than Yellow Submarine, after all Magical Mystery Tour had six new songs (those songs on the EP) while Yellow Submarine only had four.
#8 A Hard Day’s Night
Personally I think Help! is a stronger album although I can dig the argument that A Hard Day’s Night is a more “important” album. And I do like that it has no covers. The covers on Help! are the worst part of the album, but I’ll take the 12 originals on it over the 13 originals on this one.
That’s not to say this isn’t a pop-rock masterpiece, it is. It’s loaded with fantastic songs such as the title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “If I Fell,” “And I Love Her,” & “Things I Said Today.” It’s definitely a must buy for anyone who is interested in the “early Beatles” sound.
#9 Please Please Me
What?! Ahead of Help! That’s ridiculous. There’s no way Please Please Me is anywhere near as good as that album. Yeah, it was their first album and it has a cool “energy” to it (as it was mostly recorded in one day) but the songs just don’t compare really.
#10 Help!
Includes the title track, “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away,” “Ticket To Ride,” “I’ve Just Seen A Face,” & “Yesterday.” Again, how in the hell can anyone prefer Please Please Me to this?
#11 With The Beatles
Really? Ahead of Let It Be? Also, I think Beatles For Free is better than With The Beatles & Please Please Me. There’s not too much of note on this album other than “All My Loving.”
#12 Beatles For Free
I think this album is quite underrated. Yeah it’s not as good as A Hard Day’s Night or Help! But if you compare it to their first two albums I think it comes out on top. The eight originals on this album are much better than the eight originals on Please Please Me & With The Beatles in my opinion.
#13 Yellow Submarine
“It’s All Too Much” & “Hey! Bulldog” are great songs.

Wow I can’t believe so many people are shelling out the cash for that whole box set.
Crazy.

Mike, I must be crazy because I pre-ordered them both straight off. I’m really happy I did now because The Mono Box Set is SOLD OUT (at least as of now) —> http://www.musicbyday.com/the-beatles-mono-box-set-sold-out/546/
I find it hard to believe they won’t press more when there’s obviously a lot more they could sell.. Why would they not?

now with the box sets sold out at Amazon – the individual albums are really climbing. I think it’s clear they’d be dominating the top spots if it wasn’t for the box sets. Abbey Road is now #3 and Revolver #5 (overall.)
