Weezer To Play Blue Album & Pinkerton In Full

Weezer has a new album, Hurley (yes, as in Hurley from LOST), coming out on September 14th.

But despite having this new album coming out Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo recently said “We have this really exciting idea to do a tour where we spend two nights in each city, and the first night, we play the entire Blue Album, and the second night, we play the entirety of Pinkerton. We’re just running it by promoters right now to see if there’s sufficient interest in the markets to do something like that, and if they’re on board, it’s gonna happen.”

This is great news for those who love Weezer’s mid ’90s stuff but haven’t really been able to get into what they’ve done since then. It’s also quite unusual for a band to be all about playing albums that are 15 years old when they have a new album coming out. Does this mean that bands from the ’90s are officially oldies acts?

Nah, I don’t want to bring any sort of negativity to this idea. I think it’s pretty cool. Some people have read into this quote saying that it means that the band is only going to play this one album and nothing else for each show. But if you look at the running times of the albums (41 and 34 minutes) it seems highly unlikely. It seems more likely that they would do one set of a variety of songs (including some off their new album) and then do a second set featuring the album in full.
